Mercury isn’t the hottest planet
Mercury is the nearest planet to the sun. Many people have assumed that Mercury is the hottest planet as well. Venus, on the other hand, is on average 30 million miles farther from the sun than Mercury. So, the natural assumption is that Venus should be cooler. However, it is Venus, whose average temperature is 875 F compared to 800 degrees F of the Mercury. It is because Mercury has no atmosphere and the heat of the sun is able to easily escape out. However, the thick atmosphere present in Venus traps the sun’s heat and keeps itself hotter than any other planet.
